1. The standard unit of measurement for animals (according to the video shown while crossing the causeway from Singapore to Malaysia) is the teacup. As we were reliably informed, a raven is approximately the size of 3 teacups
2. The standard unit of measurement for a tall sportsman is a Peter Crouch, ie Sabah's new rising star footballer is 'a Malaysian Peter Crouch,' according to the Borneo Post
3. The patron saint of Borneo is Mariah Carey. They love her, and all her warbly pop brethren
4. In the Premier League of popularity in Borneo, Liverpool are top (Liverpool-branded tops, hats, mobile phones, buses, cars, everything), followed by Chelski. Man Utd a distant third, with no sign of the Gunners.
5. The authorities feel the need to display posters clearly stating that ninja throwing stars are banned from the country. Upsettlingly, while at customs we were unable to find the queue of dejected, jobbing ninjahs being forced to hand over their means of earning a crust
