Aussie postal delays

The below was actually written on the plane from Melbourne to Alice Springs on Oct 25th, but I haven't been able to get online in order to post it until now, as a result of having spent the last nine days in the outback. Upsettingly, they don't appear to have high-speed wifi in the desert. More about that trip soon, I promise.

Apologies about how long it has taken us to put up a first post from Down Under, but we have been living it up Yeoman-stylee in Victoria ("The Place to Be," according to license plates in the state). The last ten days have been a world away from our time in Borneo, luxuriating in the comforts of my aunt and uncle's Melbourne house and home cooking. And wine! From the tasteless fizz of Tiger beer, Bornean tipple of choice, we have come to a land where you seemingly can't drive 50km without passing an road sign inviting you to the nearest winery, complete with tastings and cellar door sales. When you take these purchases to a wilderness lodge in the beautiful Grampians national park, discover that you are the only people staying there, and then consume while watching the sun set over the bush, life feels pretty sweet. Add to that the fact that you've spent the day watching kangaroos spring about outside your cabin - I thought they jumped, but really they spring, like amazing furry coils - and you go to bed feeling extremely lucky. We have driven the Great Ocean Road, seen our first koala and perhaps best of all for me, met lots of people with the surname Yeoman. Next up is the outback: things are about to get hot.
